A History of As the World Turn's Neal Alcott |
 |
Although a newcomer to Oakdale in 1993, Neal Alcott's ties ran deeper than anyone initially suspected. Neal was bright, funny, articulate and well liked by just about everyone upon her arrival. She began working for Lucinda Walsh at about the same time as award-winning architect, Royce Keller came to town. He was brought to Oakdale by Lucinda to design the new WorldWide Tower. |
|
Naturally, Neal and Royce arriving in Oakdale at the same time was no mere coincidence. They were keeping the secret that they were Lucinda's estranged half-brother and half-sister! The later revealed backstory was that when Lucinda was a child, her mother remarried and became pregnant. Lucinda's new alcoholic stepfather made her mother choose between the unborn child and Lucinda. Consequently, Lucinda was sent away to live with her father. Of course life for Royce and Neal was not easy growing up. Their parents were very abusive with Royce often taking the majority of the abuse. | |

Royce and Neal felt their futures were bright in Oakdale. Neal began a romance with Scott Eldridge, Lisa's son. And Royce was seeing Emily. Neal and Lucinda were becoming great friends. In fact, they were growing so close that Neal desperately wanted to tell Lucinda about the true nature of their relationship. However, Royce was adamantly against it and continually talked Neal into waiting. Everything seemed to be going along quite well until Neal's ex-husband, Michael Alcott, arrived. Michael, knowing the truth about their identities, blackmailed Royce into giving him a job. But he wanted more. Royce and his loyal butler (yes, a butler!) vowed to kill Michael before giving Michael anything else. Next thing you know, Michael fell to his death in a construction site accident. Hmmm...go figure.
Things moved quickly as Scott overheared Royce's voice on Neal's answering machine. Scott demanded to know what was going on. Neal confessed that she and Royce were Lucinda's sister and brother. Scott was furious over the deception and accused Neal of being involved with Michael's death. Scott stormed out leaving Neal devastated. Next thing one knows, Neal was found murdered!
|
Scott, Royce and the butler were among the suspects. But on the witness stand, it was revealed that Royce suffered from multiple personality disorder. One of his alters shoved Neal into the fireplace mantle where she hit her head and died. Lucinda was devastated by the reveal and the missed opportunity to better know her sister Neal. She helped Royce recover from his disorder, but in the end, he left town.

[Side note: At some point, it was revealed that Samantha was Royce's long lost twin sister.]
Neal's stay in Oakdale proved to be a short and ultimately fatal one, but her relationship with Lucinda still resonates today. As it has proven to be a major motivation for Lucinda taking in adopted daughter Lily's new found twin sister, Rose.
